I use it all the for text messaging. You seem pretty tech savvy, so I won't get into the details of how it works. But since you still keep your american (norte) line you shouldn't have any problems. This means changing your old number everywhere." This might not be a problem anymore. I am an expat too, and there's a website called Avakit that really helped me when I relocated and changed job... otherwise it would have been a nightmare to sit and think of every person in the world who I need to send my new contacts to! This might not be a problem anymore.
